When I first heard the plan that school friend Tracy & her husband (plus one of their friends) had come up with – I was not only surprised but also super impressed!
An 33000km overland expedition from the southern to northern most points of Africa via 23 countries while creating 45 food gardens along the way!
They put in for sabbatical’s with their companies (accepted), raised R63,000 for seeds & hosepipes, rented out their house in Johannesburg, South Africa (done), packed their bags and started driving on the 5th October 2013… all with the amazing and selfless concept of helping others!
so far – they have travelled 16.000km through 10 countries & created 17 food gardens!! (and of course, one particular garden in the middle of Africa has my name on it :))
They are teaching children, as well as communities how to survive…. and be sustainable.
They have also spent 7 incredibly difficult days living on $1,25 in Kenya, in order to illustrate the reality behind the World Bank definition of poverty – you can read more about this experience here
Their love for the second biggest continent is immense and makes every African proud to be associated with them.
During the course of the last 6months, they have lost the tenants to their house, lost their jobs, experienced Visa delays and have been “survivors” of numerous unexpected obstacles (including having their car illegally impounded when they refused to pay a bribe)… BUT their love for this project and Africa, plus the pure ultimate determination to continue keeps them going.
Their plan is still to co-create a further 29 food gardens in 13 countries…
Now is the opportunity for YOU to be able to help them…
