Our August event of Chocolate inspired cakes drew 8 bakers and 10 tasters and we raised 208€ (you can read more about it here) – but due to Sunday 22nd September being Car-free Sunday in Brussels which normally also brings with it large numbers of events all happening on the same day – our group of bakers and tasters were somewhat smaller – but still an impressive turnout with 4 bakers and 7 tasters (and one of our previously present bakers who supplied her jam in absentia).
BUT we still raised 120€ and had mountains of fun….
We broke the concept down into 2 competitions – Favourite Jam & Favourite Scone… and trust me when I say that the competition was tough!!
There were 2 Jams that came in first place tie:
Arianna of Un Altro colore brought in 2 jams – but it was her winning recipe of Pear & star anise jam (with apple juice & cane sugar)
along with Emma of cooking with Emma (2012 UK Masterchef contestant) who provided a Blackcurrant & ginger jam
The other jams were also fabulous and deserve special mention:
Maria’s mums chutney (spicy and so perfect with a spot of blue cheese… on ANY of the scones)
Sylvia of Going to Brussels submitted a Rhubarb & Ginger jam that was equally more-ish
Arianna’s 2nd jam was a wild plum & cardemom jam
When it came down to the scones selection – we had 2 adventurous combinations and 2 traditional versions… and found that the voting put the 2 adapted scones recipes in a first place tie!!
Maria’s Cheddar & Jalapeno Scones
Sylvia’s Apricot & Ginger Scones
while Emma & I both went traditional ….
All in all – there wasn’t a jam or a scone that wasn’t good … but someone has to win … right??? 🙂
We have one event left… with the theme BIRTHDAY CAKE which will be hosted on the evening of Friday 4th October… and will include bubbly & savoury snacks as well and our goal is to get to an amount of 500€ in total to hand over to Buttles…. Will you help us??? Bookings can be done via the Bookalokal website
