Clarke’s dining in Cape Town

Shellzie babes is definitely the food guru on funky, cool and trendy restaurants in the Cape Town area… (especially since food is not only her passion but part of her working life as well)… so when she mentioned finding us a perfect spot in Bree Street for breakfast – we left it in her capable hands.

Kir had just flown in for 24hr from PE (bless the gal)….  this time together was a shortened version of our normal annual girls weekends (which normally revolves around one of us getting married, or planning the wedding, spa treatments, food, wine and more food!) and more about last minute wedding (mine) planning – but of course food, wine and spa treatments were not to be missed!!!

We were whisked off to the uber-cool foodie street of BREE (not to be mistaken for the cheese)… and wandered into the casual day-time american style cuisine offering of CLARKE’s – where pretty much everything is homemade using organic, free-range or grass-fed ingredients.

The interior is fun and quirky without too much fussy bits… either bar-style seating or communal large tables… or even a few 2seaters along the wall… but the part of their decor that I absolutely loved – was all the potplants on the windowsill…. (for someone like me who basically keeps nurseries in $$ because I have to keep replacing my poor green leafed friends cos I either over or under water… this was impressive!)

Shells had recommended the Grilled cheese sandwich (using Colby cheddar & Cloud cottage goats cheese – R40.00)

Clarkes grilled toasties

We then added Rosa tomatoes & picked Jalapeno (each an additional R7) to the one portion:

and Bacon (R15) and Avocado (R15 when available) to the other:

Each portion consisted of 2 toasties… and therefore 2 portions were more than enough for the 3 of us to share!

Another WONDERFUL bonus – is the free wifi (but obviously only for those who sit down and order/eat) – so after a week of not seeing emails download on my dreaded crackblackberry… I could whip out the iPad and finally see what was happening in the world ….

Would I go back? If I was in town in Cape Town and looking for a spot to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and some mid-day eating – while making use of WIFI – YES!
