One warm and balmy evening with HIM not having to work – we decided to explore our new neighbourhood a little bit more by trying out one of the neighbouring restaurants…
We meandered down Lebroussart to Flagey and then decided to walk up Vleurgat… for 2 reasons – we were not in the mood for Chinese/Vietnamese/Thai (which was readily available) and the rest of the restaurants had already closed up for their summer break.
We did find a little Italian place (or at least it looked little from the street) and decided to give it a go.
Aglio e Olio offers a wonderful large terrace garden at the back and extensive seating in the restaurant on 2 different levels as well!
The only negative thing about a garden on a day that is >30degrees … is the bugs (crawling on the table and lets just say that some serious arm flapping happened in order to *protect* the food from dive bombing opportunists)… but this is something that comes with the terriority!
We viewed the black board menu…
and opted to share a plate of antipasta (14euro) as a starter….. which had roasted (room temperature) vegetables in the centre, some sliced ham, carpaccio and salmon. (A basket of bread was delivered to the table when we were half way through)
We both then opted for the Gorgonzola, walnut & spinach pasta (13.50euros) – which with it’s very strong flavours was delicious… but somewhat on the small size for a dinner portion (I guess that this is why the Italian women are skinny!!)
All in all – the restaurant was nice and I really have nothing to complain about – the food was tasty and well priced (not expensive), the staff were friendly and amicable – but with so many other offerings out there and the fact that I didn’t feel the *wow* factor (could also be that I have become spoilt with all that I have eaten and experienced) – this is probably one that I might not visit again – but don’t let that stop you!
