Scrumptious Sunday lunch at De Grendel

The last time that I was in Cape Town (October 2012) – Mom and I viewed a few spots as potential wedding venues and De Grendel quickly became one of my firm favourites! The View!!!! The decor!!

The friendly welcome and accommodating discussion with Nicky & Jonathan Davies. And I have to tell you that tasting their wines almost had me signing on the dotted line immediately!

So, when I arrived back in Cape Town in December and started the holiday off with my 2 best friends… the first stop on our girls weekend getaway was to have lunch at De Grendel…

We tried a glass of the Winifred 2010 (R32 a glass or R90 a bottle) which was more-ishly delicious along with my personal favourite, the Rose 2012 (at R50 a bottle – this is a phenomenal well priced drinking choice).

We opted for the full monty… starters, mains AND desserts…. and every single one of them was better than the next!

Shells, Kirsty and I all had the Warm goats cheese, baby beetroot, raspberry and pecan nut (R70)

For Mains, Shells opted for the Springbok loin, carmelized onion, Guinness, asparagus, potato and porcini (R175) plate

While Kirsty ordered the Pork Belly, beets, apple, potato and sage (R155) dish

And I went for another starter, Squid, cherry tomato, avocado, aioli and chorizo (R80) – which was PERFECT!

And finally…. we needed to end the meal with more deliciousness…. Shells needed chocolate (this is her signature)…. and went for the chocolate, chocolate, chocolate (R55) which turned out to be a slice of chocolate torte and a ball of chocolate ice-cream.

And Kirsty and I shared a plate of cheese (R60) along with coffee’s

Would I go back again? Well – lets just say that there is 99.9% chance that they are will be hosting HIM’s and my nuptial celebrations later this year 😉 so yes… a definite yes to going back!
