Although it is named after the revolutionary Irish leader, Michael Collins pub in Brussels is more of a home away from home type of pub, than it is a political venue – offering Monday night Pub quizzes and live music over weekends.
This Irish pub is legendary in our group of friends – particularly due to a long boozy lunch that happened 3years ago whereby some friendships were sealed for life after many many bottles and glasses of wine (note to barman – don’t offer *buy 1 bottle, get the 2nd for free* to us…. cos by the umpteenth bottle (that we had bought) they were regretting this special!)
Sarah, M, Mr Draper, HIM and myself decided that a visit to Michael Collins pub was long overdue and we therefore decided to stop there for lunch on a particular saturday that also happened to be Sarah’s & M’s birthday (and they aren’t even related)…
M order the Roast of the day – Roast beef with mash, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy:
Sarah, Mr Draper and HIM all ordered their infamous irish beef burgers… with cheese and fried egg, served with fries and a small salad.
And I opted for the chicken caesar salad, cos I knew that it was a weekend of birthday cakes…
The secret about Michael Collins is that the food is unpretentious pub grub served with wonderful pints of cider and/or beer at reasonable prices. The decor is in line with pub decor – no frills, no-nonsense – what you see is what you get.
Would I go back? yes… and I often do!
