Beware of gunshot… in your Pheasant

As already mentioned, M and I spent the Easter weekend in Edinburgh… 4 glorious nights at 94DR (boutique guest house) and 4 glorious days meandering through all the sights (Royal Yacht Britannia, Edinburgh Castle, Princes street and Royal Mile for shopping, not to mention the *Real Mary Kings Close* and Whiskey Experience) and thanks to the owners of 94DR – we got a fabulous table near the window with the view of the castle at one of Edinburgh’s yummiest restaurants!

Having opened in 2002, it continues to provide delicious food and an easy going relaxed environment! The menu’s are obviously printed regularly and updated with the days/weeks specials – as they are essentially just printed A4 pieces of paper!

We ordered a bottle of South African Red Shiraz/Cinsauz (Forge Mill – which I had never heard of before) and a portion of their bread (which was served with the tastiest (and greenest) olive oil that I have ever had!)… and we ordered the much recommended Garlic fries! yummy!

you can smell the garlic, can't you?

The menu was interesting and we didn’t know where to begin… a section dedicated to skewer combinations (called the CHL = chunky healthy lines) had been recommended … so we opted for the veggie option which produced 2 well sized skewers of baby tomatoes, courgettes, haloumi cheese,  aubergines and pumpkin… served with a beetroot coleslaw in a pitta bread. (Other skewer options included chicken and prawns or delicious steak or monkfish and bacon options)

health on a plate

The other main course was a pheasant breast wrapped in prosciutto and served on pumpkin mash topped with kale… the menu said *beware of gunshot* – which got M and I discussing whether it was a joke or if *gunshot* was the verb and *buckshot* was the actual item…. what the hell… we threw caution to the wind and braved our teeth!

can you spell *delicious*

Since we had gone *halvies* on the main courses… I got the pheasant after the skewers (which was a light and refreshing option), but the pheasant was amazing! Until my last bite… which produces the forewarned *gunshot*!!!!

the proof

No teeth were harmed in the enjoyment of this meal!

Would I go back? Probably… and definitely request a table near the window again… and more likely for their lunch menu!
